Oberwil bei Büren is a municipality in the Seeland administrative district in the canton of Bern in Switzerland.

Oberwil has an area, as of 2009[update], of 6.72 square kilometers (2.59 sq mi). Of this area, 3.76 km2 (1.45 sq mi) or 56.0% is used for agricultural purposes, while 2.4 km2 (0.93 sq mi) or 35.7% is forested. Of the rest of the land, 0.57 km2 (0.22 sq mi) or 8.5% is settled (buildings or roads).[3]
Of the built up area, housing and buildings made up 4.9% and transportation infrastructure made up 2.8%. Out of the forested land, all of the forested land area is covered with heavy forests. Of the agricultural land, 40.6% is used for growing crops and 14.6% is pastures.[3]
Oberwil has a population (as of 31 December 2010) of 800.[1] As of 2007[update], 4.8% of the population was made up of foreign nationals. Over the last 10 years the population has grown at a rate of 3.4%. Most of the population (as of 2000[update]) speaks German (97.9%), with French being second most common ( 0.9%) and Serbo-Croatian being third ( 0.5%).

In the 2007 election the most popular party was the SVP which received 52.8% of the vote. The next three most popular parties were the SPS (14.6%), the Green Party (10.7%) and the FDP (7.5%).
The age distribution of the population (as of 2000[update]) is children and teenagers (0–19 years old) make up 21% of the population, while adults (20–64 years old) make up 64.6% and the seniors (over 64 years old) make up 14.4%. In Oberwil about 77.5% of the population (between age 25-64) have completed either non-mandatory upper secondary education or additional higher education (either university or a Fachhochschule).
